At the Back of the North Wind
By George MacDonald
Dramatized by Focus on the Family Radio Theatre
J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were both devotees of George MacDonalds work. At the Back of the North Wind is a classic fantasy of a small boy named Little Diamond who is taken on wonderful adventures with the North Wind. Juliet Stevenson (Bend it Like Beckham, Emma) performs what should be an impossible part with all the mystery and volatility one would expect to find in the most might of currents. At times, loving and maternal, at others distanced and strict, she indeed carries this immaculately produced dramatization on her back. This audiobook is perfect for family listeningespecially on a car trip when the elements are only a windowpane away
Truly, madly, deeply. Juliet Stevenson is among the very best audiobook performers as well as among the most prolific. Look for her recordings of classic works from Naxos Audio among others and revel in her rich characterizations that help you see even perhaps overly familiar characters in a new light.Ellen Myrick

Detecting Forgery: Forensic Investigation of Documents
Camera Clues: A Handbook for Photographic Investigation
by Joe Nickell
Most public libraries are havens for patrons seeking information on family history, and these two books can help such patrons gain new insights about their family documents and photographs. These works would also be very useful as resources for mystery writers and fans and to feed the interest of CSI watchers and others fascinated by forensic science.
Forensically yours: Both books are very accessible, are well illustrated, and appear to be written for the amateur sleuth rather than the law enforcement professional. These are new paperback editions of earlier works from the University of Kentucky Press and are affordable additions any public library should consider. Shannan Starnes, MSLS

Knit Along with Debbie Macomber: The Shop on Blossom Street
Knit Along with Debbie Macomber: A Good Yarn
Library patrons are very familiar with Debbie Macombers novels. The characters from The Shop on Blossom Street and A Good Yarn have become our friends, the ones we want to sit and knit with on a rainy day. Well, now we can knit the same things they do! These companion books contain instructions for their projects so we can enjoy the actual afghans, scarves, hats, and sweaters. The instructions include all the info such as materials, gauge, and knitting instructions as well as notes about the characters that made them and tips from them. There are full-color photos of the finished projects, too. I can imagine a book group reading the books and knitting the projects at the same time!
One more layer: Information about the Warm Up America! Foundation is included with each book; Debbie is very involved with the foundation and is donating all her profits from these books to this worthy cause. Leisure Arts is also donating part of its proceeds. The foundation provides knit or crochet afghans to battered womens shelters, victims of natural disasters, the homeless, and others in need. Tools: A Tool-By-Tool Guide To Choosing And Using 150 Home Essentials
By Steve Dodds
This little book has lots of information about tools how to use them, what they are designed for, how expensive or inexpensive they are, how essential they are to have around, what skill level is needed, and what kinds of materials the tools are used on. With illustrations of each tool and its variations, the information is useful to beginners as well as more experienced workers.
Section 3 is a guide to using all the tools, but the book also includes a guide to learning how to use tools properly and how to buy the ones you need in the first section. Section 2 lays out a variety of kits that would be handy for specific purposes; for example, you might want to look at the tools most useful for a home workshop or perhaps the tools most useful for living in an apartment. There is also a glossary of terms and a complete index.
Handy book: Ive always been fascinated by hardware stores and all the wonderful tools available. Its fun to look at tools to try to figure out what they are and how they are used. Some are designed for very specific purposes like the doweling jig, and others have much broader uses like hammers or clamps. Tools is like a guided tour of the hardware store. Norma Lilly, MLS
