In the Spotlight…
Let's start off this month mentioning the new release video games favored by Metacritic.com. Two titles for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 really stand out. You must have seen the spots on TV for Dragon Age: Origins; the spirit of classic RPGs comes of age, with a dark and mature story and game play, but it's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2--the sequel to the bestselling shooter of all-time--with the highest Metascore.
A complete list is available on ipage.

Disney is "disappearing the classics" again. Sleeping Beauty and Jungle Book are the two Platinum titles that will be most noticeably missed. And although they will be unavailable for a while, there are other classics, such as the extra-special-limited-anniversary-editions of Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz that will fill the gap.

Two box office titles are worthy attention grabbers this time around. Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, stars Ellen Page as a small-town teen with a big dream… to don a pair of skates, join a roller derby team, and become her own hero. And one never gets tired of zombie flicks and Zombieland is no exception. The pairing of Columbus, a nerdy college kid, and fearless, kick-ass Tallahassee makes for a good time as the pair--along with a few other survivors--kill the undead (for good) as they trek cross-country.

Foreign film has several top-notch releases and it's difficult to chose, but here goes. Lorna's Silence is a powerful story of a young woman caught between love and the law from the writing and directing team of L'Enfant. The Headless Woman is an intriguing little film that leaves clues to anyone watching closely enough. An Argentine woman's inability to take responsibility for a crime she may have committed subtly mirrors the country's period of dictatorship.

Bob Ross hosted The Joy of Painting from 1983 to 1995. His famous warm and patient instructional style is available on the 10 disc collection featuring nine one-hour instructional sessions and an additional Getting Started session. Béla Fleck: Throw Down Your Heart follows the banjo virtuoso on a musical adventure that takes him from Uganda to Tanzania and from the Gambia to Mali on a pilgrimage to Africa to rediscover the banjo's folk music roots.

Lastly, our television entry this month is Weeds: Season 5. Nancy is pregnant again with her Mexican crime lord's baby and finds a worthy opponent in Pilar. Celia tries to one-up Nancy. Andy falls in love with someone besides Nancy. Doug and Silas get double-crossed without Nancy's help and Shane shows his devotion to Nancy.
