Provence A-Z
By Peter Mayle
Read by the author
Random House Audio
As the author of 11 books on the region, Peter Mayle is the unofficial troubadour of Provence. In Provence A-Z, Mayle gives the reader an anecdotal accounting of over 200 reasons he loves the region. Like an encyclopedia of the quirky as well as the mundane, part travelogue and part reference work, Provence A-Z is, above all, another love song from the author to his adopted home.

The entries are alphabetical and include many culinary sensual indulgences. Here are just a few:
- Ail (Garlic): the reader will learn the recipe for Four Thieves Vinegar (vinegar, rosemary, sage, Absinthe, mint, and garlic)
- Chèvre (Goat cheese): over 100 varieties exist
- Pomme d'amour (Tomato): a lovely old Provençal name for what most other regions of France call simply la tomate
- Melon (a melon): the entry on this delicate and flavorful fruit is especially mouth-watering
Read by the author, this audio is a pure delight. One can hear the joy in Mayle's voice as he narrates (the entries read in French, and in some cases, the local Provençal dialect) the myriad things he loves about this land of olive trees and lavender fields. It's easy to see why this area has ensnared the author's heart and captivated the minds of his readers for so many years.
