Old favorites conclude; new hopefuls step forward.
Thoroughbred
As the ever popular HarperEntertainment Thoroughbred series comes to completion, intermediate grade female readers who love horses may find the new Saddle, Stars, and Stripes series a welcome addition to their reading repertoire. This new series from Kingfisher launches in November with two titles, Chance of a Lifetime and Blackwater Creek. Although not a contemporary series, Saddle, Stars, and Stripes features strong, young heroines from different times in American history and of different ethnic backgrounds who possess a unique brand of courage and determination. Each girl and her beloved horse have unforgettable journeys and adventures as they meet challenges of survival in a growing, new America. Titles are paper over board, hardcover editions at $8.99 retail, and offered on the Popular Series-Youth Standing Order Program.
Dear America
Young ladies ages 9-12 disappointed that the Dear America series from Scholastic has come to a conclusion can look forward to a fresh new historical fiction series, Portraits, beginning in October, also from Scholastic. Dancing Through Fire and Searching for the Past begin the series. Each new title will explore the story of a young girl depicted in a beloved painting much like Girl with a Pearl Earring was for adult readers. The binding is paper over board, hardcover at $8.99 retail. This series is also conveniently part of the Popular Series-Youth Standing Order Program.
