Break No Bones
By Kathy Reichs
Ready by Dorothée Berryman
Unabridged on 10 CDs
Simon and Schuster Audio
Temperance Brennan is back! Break No Bones, the latest release from bestselling forensic suspense author Kathy Reichs, finds Tempe on a barrier island off the coast of Charleston, SC, leading an archaeological dig at a Native American burial ground. When the field school unearths a recently buried skeleton, Tempe calls on the local coroner (and her longtime friend) Emma Rousseau and the story is off and running. It appears that Dr. Brennan won't be leaving the Charleston area any time soon.
What follows is a string of murders--including a man found hanging in a tree, and a woman's body stuffed in a barrel. All of the bodies share mysterious markings on the bones. Eventually, Tempe links the victims back to a free clinic in downtown Charleston.
When Tempe's estranged husband Pete comes to stay in Charleston to investigate the disappearance of a client's daughter, who was employed at the free clinic, she gets an eerie sensation that everything is tied together. What Tempe eventually uncovers is a web of lies that leads to a terrifying discovery about what is really going on at the free clinic.
Suspense abounds in this latest installment from the writer whose books have inspired the Fox TV series Bones. The writing is tight, the twists are unexpected, and the story makes the listener reach for CD after CD as the suspense unfolds. Read by Canadian actress Dorothée Berryman, Break No Bones ebbs and flows aided by her superbly subtle reading.
