My husband is a huge graphic novel fan and anxiously awaited the theatrical release of Watchmen. I, on the other hand tend to see the movie before I pick up the book. I was riveted to the screen and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this film as I suspected I would. And, of course it will make my collection when it streets July 21st. The critics favored Duplicity, starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen as two ex-intelligence agents working for rivals and double-crossing each other despite their growing mutual attraction. Fast and Furious - (is it really #4) - is worth a mention. It rocks and races as well as the original, and the characters have comfortably matured. Digging a bit deeper into upcoming releases, Goddess, the Bollywood fantasy-thriller, is lavish with its musical productions in a classic tale of good vs. evil. In Katyn, director Andrzej Wajda dramatizes the events of the Katyn massacre of over 22,000 Polish intellectuals, ordered by Joseph Stalin. In the HBO special, Grey Gardens stars Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange as the reclusive mother and daughter made famous in the 1975 documentary. The Criterion Collection release of Roman Polanski's psychological thriller Repulsion is chocked full of bonus materials including audio commentary with Roman Polanski and Catherine Deneuve; the making-of documentary A British Horror Film (2003) featuring interviews with Polanski, producer Gene Gutowski, and cinematographer Gil Taylor; and the 1964 television documentary filmed on the set of Repulsion, featuring rare footage of Polanski and Deneuve at work. Award-winning aerial photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand and narrator Glenn Close take you on a spectacular voyage around the world in Home, a unique film with breathtaking imagery. Family fun comes in the form of Race to Witch Mountain. The franchise of our childhood gets a face lift and is a surprisingly entertaining, fast-paced movie for kids of all ages. On the TV front, there are three exceptional upcoming releases. Mad Men: Season 2 has Don Draper searching for his personal identity after a temporary split with his wife, Peggy climbing further up the corporate ladder and Duck finagling the sale of Sterling Cooper. Less serious is the understated, simplistic, critically acclaimed comedy music series The Flight of the Conchords: The Complete Second Season. This hilarious series follows the adventures of Jemaine and Bret, two New Zealanders hoping to get their big music break in New York City. Based on the public radio show, This American Life: Second Season, hosted by Ira Glass, is a captivating look at American life through compelling stories from everyday folks.
