I thought maybe the newsletter I prepared for April was a little slim on content until I started looking over the titles for this issue. I have to start off with a little-known film that will ultimately hit the Top 10s for 2009, Two Lovers. If you believe everything you hear, this is Joaquin Phoenix's swansong, but let's hope not. Recovering from a disastrous relationship, Leonard finds himself thrust into two new relationships when he moves in with his parents. Since we are talking about relationships, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson are a perfect match in Last Chance Harvey, while Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet portray a couple whose pursuit of happiness may become their destruction in Revolutionary Road, based on Richard Yates’ bestselling novel. Passengers is a bit of a romance, in a disturbing thriller about a psychologist (Anne Hathaway) assigned to evaluate the survivors of a devastating plane crash and crosses the ethical line with one of her charges (Patrick Wilson). You know the expression "too big to fail?" Well, The International just might be the feel-good movie of the year amidst the current climate. Valkyrie and Defiance both have it in for the Nazis, but where one succeeds to be triumphant, the other fails--although not without heroic effort. It would be wrong not to mention The Wrestler, because this little picture made a big splash with the talents of Mickey Rourke, Darren Aronofsky and Bruce Springsteen, even. Oh, and I almost forgot… The Reader!

Moving on, for the family we have Paul Blart: Mall Cop.  How this film did so well at the box office is Kevin James’ little secret. Not new, but coming to Blu-ray for the first time, is A Bug's Life and not entirely new to DVD, but coming out in a special edition, is Peanuts: The 1960 Collection, including He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown and It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown on DVD for the first time. Not for family, Weeds: Season 4 takes the Botwin clan to just north of the border as Nancy and company explore new relationships. BBC/Warner is releasing the newest version of Little Dorrit, from Masterpiece Theatre and the topical Inside the Wire: Guantanamo from National Geographic is an absorbing nonfiction pick. For those of you curious what it would be like to have India as our overlord as Stephen Colbert suggests, Chandni Chowk to China, our newest Bollywood offering, has moved to a May release.

All of these titles and many more are included in our monthly Video News newsletter.
