Prolific author Kate Wilhelm returns with another stand-alone psychological thriller, The Price of Silence. Set in small town Brindle, Oregon, this story centers on Todd Fielding, a young, newly married woman who arrives in Brindle to work for the town's newspaper. As with many small towns, the locals are a bit eccentric and wary of all newcomers. But Todd charms her way into the heart of the newspaper's publisher, a strong-willed older woman named Ruth Ann Colonna, and with this friendship earns a valuable advocate. With Todd's help, Ruth Ann writes a special edition of the paper, one detailing Brindle's history--the proud and shameful aspects. The story is sure to upset many of the town's proud citizens. Shortly after Todd's arrival in Brindle, a young girl goes missing. Wanting to write an exposé in the newspaper on the girl's disappearance, Todd learns that other pre-teen girls have gone missing over the past decade. She wants to publish her findings but is met with resistance from the town's sheriff who is convinced that the events are unrelated. Are the people of Brindle hiding a secret, or possibly even a killer? What unfolds is a mystery within a mystery, a tale with twists and turns--and ties to the past and the secrets it holds.

Anna Fields, the narrator of over 200 audiobooks, reads The Price of Silence. Fields is the past winner of the 2004 Audie for Unabridged Fiction and more than one AudioFile Earphones award. She has the ability to alter her voice so that she becomes each character. She reads in the voice of a fresh, innocent pre-teen girl, to the brash confidence of a woman in her twilight years, as well as the staunch defiance of a gruff small town sheriff. Fields' awards are well won. Her reading of The Price of Silence is a performance, not just a narration. --Linda Arrington Lusk, Product Marketing Manager
