| Audiobook Publisher Profile: One Voice Recording |
 |
In each issue of this newsletter, The Heard Word asks an audio litany of questions of audio publishers. This month, we talk with David Ian Davies of one of our newest audiobook publishers.
HW: What is the name of your company?
DD: One Voice Recording
HW: What you do at One Voice?
DD: I am publisher and dramatic narrator for all of our CDs.
HW: What is the history of the company?
DD: We have been in existence for approximately three years. After many years in the industry as a voice over artist and actor in England and the USA, I decided to publish the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. This was a task of love and enjoyment as I had always had a great propensity for the personalities that Doyle created and found that I could vocally duplicate these characterizations so that the voices were ascribed such individualization that they could be differentiated from each other. To gain realism with the female portion of the casting I admit that electronic pitching had to be utilized but worked amazingly well.
HW: What are you best known for?
DD: My ability to make listeners feel that a full cast was being utilized and not just one person.
HW: Do you do any childrens or classics? If so, what percentage of your list?
DD: I love to do children's classic stories--I find it most gratifying to be a part of shaping the mind of small children with the best literature.
HW: What is your replacement policy for libraries?
DD: We will replace a missing disc for a small handling and shipping fee of $5 per CD. Contact us directly.
HW: What are your highlights from the your new list do you most want libraries to know about?
DD: The Hound Of The Baskervilles has been a story that for many years has proved fascinating in schools and librairies. The special appeal of this Doyle work has proved to be entertaining in all areas of the world. I perhaps enjoyed performing this story more than any other because of its gripping quality and have found listeners experiencing the same effect. We also have Silver Blaze and a compilation of four stories: The Adventure Of The Resident Patient, The Adventure Of The Beryl Coronet, The Adventure Of The Dying Detective, and The Adventure Of The Final Problem in a two CD production called Four From The Canon. We have approximately sixty more of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories to publish in the coming months that have already been transcribed, and we look forward to making these available soon.
HW: What cool fact should libraries know about you?
DD: I was raised in England, attended RADA, and have always relished all forms of acting from stage performance, camera work, to voice recording. I live in Hollywood have my own studio for recording and keep as busy as possible through my Agency, ADA.
