| News… worthy | |||
There are several notable titles on the horizon, what with the recent wins at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes: The Reader, Doubt, and Milk have been announced since our last communication. Click here for the most current list of nominations & winners. Not Oscar worthy, but collection worthy, are: Marley & Me, based on the bestselling memoir by John Grogan, and The Tale of Despereaux, Kate DiCamillo's award-winning tale of a brave and virtuous mouse who dreams of becoming a knight. Big in box office receipts, Bedtime Stories is a fantasy about a guy whose lavish bedtime stories to his nephews come true, like magic! Keanu Reeves fittingly portrays the alien, Klaatu, in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. The 1951 original is included with the release. Adapted from Will Eisner's comic strip, The Spirit is brought to the screen by Frank Miller, the man behind Sin City. And Tell No One, Harlan Coben's international bestselling thriller, is under the radar, but critically acclaimed and worth a risk. Green is the new black! There are a slew of new titles on the subject. School House Rock!: Earth proves that caring about the environment can be rockin’ fun! Mr. Earth (Paul Rudd) teaches Elmo and Abby how "it can be easy being green" in Sesame Street: Being Green, by recycling, re-using, and conserving water and energy. Handy Manny and his tools demonstrate solar power and offer up Earth Day fun in Handy Manny: Manny's Green Team. And National Geographic's Earth Report investigates the impact that development has had on the environment and explores what is being done to protect our planet. Lastly, we have to mention Sesame Street: Elmo and the Bookaneers: Pirates Who Love to Read. Tina Fey leads the Bookaneers ashore to plunder Elmo's bookshelves and Elmo is enthralled when he discovers their love of reading.
