NPR Driveway Moments:  All About Animals
Performed by Steve Inskeep
Highbridge

This reviewer is the proud mother of a furry (canine) daughter, and a fan of public radio.  So it should come as no surprise that I had to pick up this audio collection. Anyone who is an avid NPR listener knows about "Driveway Moments," those times when you are listening to a story that is so engrossing you have to sit in your driveway (or perhaps pull into a stranger’s driveway) to listen until the story is complete. This collection, one in a series which includes "Funniest Driveway Moments," "Baseball," and "Driveway Moments for Dads," focuses on animals.  There are quirky stories: a dog who is strung out from sucking on hallucinogenic toads; a man who develops a machine that literally vacuums prairie dogs from their holes; and a woman who buys her pet birds flight suits, among other articles of clothing.  There are laugh-out-loud funny stories like the couple who own a drive-thru boar semen store, or how Bill Langworthy came to realize his job as Stupid Pet Trick coordinator for David Letterman was not a fleeting moment in his career with animals.  And there are touching, often tear-jerker stories too (all I will say is, Track 10 on disc 2--"The Soul of a Dog").  This is a terrifically entertaining and thoughtful collection of some of the best Driveway Moments about our furry friends.--Linda Arrington Lusk
