| News… worthy | |||
| The 66th Golden Globe award winners were announced January 11th and the 81st Academy Award nominees were announced January 22nd. At the time I write this, a handful of the films in the top categories are already available (WALL-E, In Bruges, The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Mamma Mia, Pineapple Express). Recent announcements for DVD & Blu-ray in February and March include: The Changeling, Frozen River, Happy-Go-Lucky, Milk, Rachel Getting Married, Slumdog Millionaire, and Vicky Christina Barcelona. Look for the remaining contenders (Doubt, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, Revolutionary Road, The Wrestler) to show up in April or May. Award Nominees & Winners February and March offer a cornucopia of releases including the 2-disc special edition of Twilight, Stephanie Meyer's crazy popular teen vampire romance. If anything can follow that act, it would have to be Madagascar: Escape to Africa, the highly-anticipated sequel that finds the crew devising a crazy plan that lands them (literally) in Africa. Non-stop, edge-of-your seat action takes form in Quantum of Solace as James Bond seeks revenge for Vespa's betrayal in part two of the trilogy. The sleeper pick would have to be Let the Right One In, based on the popular novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. This is a darker tale of teen vampire romance. Another DVD worth a mention is Watchmen: A Motion Picture. Comic illustrator Dave Gibbons oversees this digital version of the graphic novel that adds limited motion, voice, and sound to the book’s strikingly drawn panels. Interesting… And finally, 60 Minutes Presents: Obama: All Access: Barack Obama's Road to the White House. The title says it all, and don't expect that to be the last documentary on our new president. HBO and Edward Norton have been working on his rise. . . more to come later. For monthly updates on upcoming video releases, sign up for our Video News e-mail notification.
