. . . mi casa, su casa"-Julia Alvarez

Since the book industry has converted from ISBN to ISBN-13 (EAN), I've been a little confused. How do you determine the EAN on a book that only has a 10-digit ISBN listed?
--EAN Confused

Dear Confused,
Making the switch from 10-digit ISBNs to 13-digit EANs has been a challenge across the publishing industry. Fortunately, there are helpful several resources. The Book Industry Study Group's Web site provides instructions on how to convert 10-digit ISBNs to EANs manually. (Note: Adding a 978 to the existing ISBN doesn't always work because the check-digit is randomly assigned.) You'll also find links to several online converters that work quite nicely.

For more information on better understanding why this conversion was necessary and how it affects libraries, visit Ingram's ISBN-13 Digital Resource Center.

All the Best,
