Black History

Earlier this year, Barack Obama made history as the first African American to be sworn in as President of the United States. As his first year in office winds down, no one can deny the effect his election has had on the United States and even the world.

This month, Ingram Explores delves into the rich history of African Americans with a selection of titles that is sure to spark students' interest. They'll learn about the upcoming observances of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (coming up on January 18th) and Black History Month in February as well as significant historical events like the Amistad mutiny and the Civil Rights Movement.

With this month's recommendations, you can also introduce kids to individuals who have made their mark on history including Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, Wilma Rudolph, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Latifah.
