Easter & Passover
Two very important holidays in their own respective religions, Easter and Passover will impact the lives of many of your students. While the children who observe these holidays are at least vaguely familiar with their own tradition, they most likely could learn a thing or two about the other. Consider spotlighting these holidays and inviting families to share their traditions with your other patrons through storytelling, art, food, or just old-fashioned conversation. Everyone will learn something new and make new friends along the way. What could be better than that?
Potty Training
Potty training is one of those things that every family on the planet has in common. It can be easy, or it can take months and months depending on the child's readiness. Regardless of the timeframe, toddlers and their parents are consumed with potty training when it is happening in their house! Be assured that moms, dads, and grandparents are on the lookout for books to encourage their little ones to use the toilet for the first time. In this list, you'll find titles to help such as The Potty Train, by David Hochman and Ruth Kennison and illustrated by Derek Anderson, and Have You Seen My Potty?, by Mij Kelly and illustrated by Mary McQuillan.
Short Stories
Readers of all ages love short stories. Reluctant readers feel encouraged when they complete an entire story in a short amount of time; and eager readers are thrilled with the fast pace that many short stories offer. Your YA readers will find David Levithan's How They Met, and Other Stories full of all kinds of love, while Jonathan Strahan's The Starry Rift is sure to excite SF fans everywhere. Baseball, magic, everyday life, and even Andy Griffith are represented in this list. There is something for everyone when it comes to short stories--they just need you to help them find what they're looking for.
College Guides
Many of your juniors and seniors have already selected a college to attend, but many have not. Or perhaps some students finally decided to attend college after weighing their options in the working world. No matter, you need numerous college guides on your shelves as soon-to-be graduates compare various colleges and universities in their geographic area and beyond. Your older patrons are looking for information on areas of study, dorms, sports, extra-curricular activities, and, of course, cost. They'll find everything they need to know--and lots of information they had no idea they needed to know--in the guides listed here.
